FAQ's For Patients
What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and activity levels. While ADHD is often identified in childhood, many individuals are not diagnosed until adulthood. Symptoms can affect areas such as organisation, concentration, time management, and emotional regulation.

Our service provides ADHD assessments for adults aged 18 and over.

All assessments at Kiam Clinic are conducted by Dr Abbass Mohammadinasab, Consultant Psychiatrist, who is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).

The assessment usually lasts 60–90 minutes and includes:

  • discussion of your current symptoms and concerns
  • review of your personal, educational and work history
  • review of standardised ADHD questionnaires
  • discussion of how symptoms affect your daily life

Where appropriate, additional information from a family member or someone who knows you well may also be considered.

Some patients prefer face-to-face appointments, particularly if they feel more comfortable discussing their symptoms in person.

If ADHD is diagnosed, the consultant will discuss possible next steps, which may include treatment options, lifestyle strategies, or referrals where appropriate.

Treatment options may include medication, psychological support, or behavioural strategies depending on individual circumstances.

Medication may be discussed where clinically appropriate. In many cases additional baseline health checks may be required before medication can be started.

Any treatment decisions are made in consultation with the patient and in accordance with clinical guidelines.

During this period, follow-up appointments are usually required monthly until the medication dose has stabilised.
